SAN ANTONIO -- School districts around San Antonio will soon be deciding whether or not they will be joining the Pre-K 4 SA program.

A board has put together a memorandum of understanding, or MOU, for each district to approve. However, at least two of the three largest districts in the city are still on the fence about the program. North East Independent School District and Northside Independent School District have a lot of questions for the city before voting on the memorandum that is set to go out to 15 local districts Friday.

The North East ISD board is concerned about funding and transportation.

“There's an issue of funding and how much funding we are going to be sending over,” explained North East ISD spokesperson Aubrey Chancellor.

Northside ISD has similar questions. Spokesperson Pascual Gonzalez says the MOU is a complex document, and they also plan to talk with the city about transportation, funding, accountability and special education.

San Antonio Independent School District officials said the MOU is workable for their district, and they are working out some final details on the plan.

It's all about money, not education.

We live just one block from Leon Valley city limits. Guess who's getting all the business I can possibly give them! You're right...this is a crock!

This whole thing is a crock. The city has no business running schools. If it is o important to send every kid to pre-k etc, the school districts would be doing it. Themayor, et al, need to fix the roads, get the garbage picked up, and run the city courts, not run glorified daycare centers with no accountability. As I said, it's a crock. Follow the money.

I don't understand why I have to pay the additional sales tax when my child is not eligible to attend free pre-k.

What happens to the extra 1/8 cent that our esteemed Mayor will be adding to the sales tax if a disctrict decides not to join the program? I'm not going to pay for some other kid to go to prek that's for sure. I'm live on the edge of San Antonio and already have decided to shop outside S.A. city limits as much as possible.
