SAN ANTONIO -- A local mom is still in shock about what she saw at a North Side railroad crossing Friday morning.

That mom captured video of a school bus driving around crossing arms and flashing lights as a nearby train was approaching. She told News 4 WOAI the bus was filled with children.

"I would be so scared if my daughter was on there," said Jennifer Mendez, who we spoke with as she was picking up her child from school.

The crossing, which is located on Basse Road just West of US 281, is on the cusp of North East Independent School District and Alamo Heights Independent School District. We alerted officials with both districts about the video. After investigating, both districts said they were able to confirm that the bus in question was not theirs.

The School of Excellence is also just down the street from the crossing. Officials there said they are now investigating the incident.

Another concerned parent, Tiffany English, has two kids who attend the School for Excellence.

"How they handle it is going to make a big difference to me about the trust in the administration," English said.

Even if the arms were stuck, it is absolutely unconscienable for the bus to go around barriers like that. All busses have phones. He should have phoned into the school and explained the situation and waited for police to come and address the problem. If the arms truly were stuck, then the police could have barricaded the tracks with a police car and directed the bus around the barriers.

for those who are ignorant to TX laws, who do not nor have ever had a CDL PS endorsement and do not know the rules and regulations and state laws, along with federal laws of driving a school bus and maintaing a CDL in order to drive a school bus then you have no business commenting on what this bus driver shoulda done under this circumstance. know your laws, know your place or shut your face. simple as that. this bus driver should know what they had better and had better not done.... PERIOD! They broke the law, they need to be fired, and brought up on charges, no matter what school or school district they work for, no matter if there were children on board, no matter the time of day, THEY BROKE THE LAW, not just district policy, THEY BROKE THE LAW! PERIOD! know your place your shut your face!

Welcome to Salem USA, watch out!! They're out to get anyone they can and hang them regardless of the truth! How most on here use no common sense or try to find out the truth about a story. It has gotten to the point that the media loves to creat BS for everyone, regardless of the facts!

That morning the railroad crossings were malfunctioning. No trains were coming but all the signal arms on that track came down, perhaps do to the storm. Of course it sure seems like news when you get some raw video of a school bus doing that. Way to go WOAI.

I hope they fire that driver plus arrest the driver for child endangerment. How STUPID

Find the bus. Find the driver. Count the children on the bus at that time, and charge the driver with that many counts of child endangerment. Moron!!!

my bad-she was talked to later on in the day. Either way, this story is BS.

I was in that mess of traffic arouns 8:35AM! I do not get why this "local mom" said she was picking up her daughter from school? this photo looks exactly how it did in the morning, not afternoon. School lets out at 3pm (most schools). I think this story is BS. Those RR arms were stuck that way for a while. And yes, by the time I did a U turn (like many others), there were police directing traffic.
