Hal Baldwin
Hal Baldwin
SCHERTZ, Texas - They are calling it  tribute.

The town of Schertz has re-elected their mayor for the tenth time; nearly a month after his death.

Hal Baldwin was running unopposed before his death. By law he couldn't be withdrawn. The date to file for candidacy had passed, so no candidates could be added.

The city manager says being re-elected was something very important to Baldwin, so the community happily granted that wish.

A permanent replacement will be chosen in a special election.

There was no money wasted. Everything was already paid up by the candidate (while still alive) for advertisment, ballots, etc. and no workers were assigned to count a single vote. An office space sat empty with the light off and it didn't cost anything for the city manager to say the name of the winner. You make it sound like hundreds of thousands went into this and it's not accurate. There will be a new election. Just like if someone had died while IN office. OMG it's useless trying to explain Civics 101 to you.

I sold out of my house in Schertz. Took a 20k hit, but at least I'm not wasting 2 hours of my life daily in traffic. Now Schertz is just one big rest stop to me.

A colossal waste of taxpayer money. They could have cancelled the election, and start over with a new election, and filing deadline for new candidates. Foolish waste of money and time.

Dear B.A. you obviously didnt really get the story. No one opposed his re-election bid so by default Johnny, the city manager, put him in office. As a name. You freaking moron. Damn you say some of the stupidest things sometimes. Just. Wow.

Schertz is over near to Converse and thus well supplied with the Devil's people. I have to admit that I'm a little surprized that they would be so bold as to elect a known dead man to be the Mayor. The Mayor of Converse is a zombie as well, though that fact is not well known. Everybody in town already knows this man is dead. Schertz is in Guadalupe County, so I guess there is nothing the Sheriff can do about it. If all those towns around Converse get dead mayors, there could be trouble. We'll have to keep a close eye on them.
