Hidden Agenda: I agree with you. The pubic screwall system is only interested in student attendance because they need maximum attendance in order to get maximum federal funding. Most of these government employees don't give a s##t about your kid. They want your money. They will do anything to get your money. They are in the business of dumbing down the masses, in order to get control of the population. I am kin to some of these SOB's. They all say: we are only doing it for the children. I know them. They are doing it for their retirement. Guaranteed retirement.

@hidden agenda~This isn't a matter of needing to open one’s mind about micro chipped id badges for students b/c it has nothing to do with this alternate reality you may be imagining where the US Government has some “cloak &dagger” conspiracy theory where the government is plotting to track us through id badges in the future. This is not some whack sci-fi movie w/Tom Cruise or Nicholas Cage in it. It's about educating these students&ensuring they are where they are supposed to be. In doing so, better attendance could possibly lead to better scores & hopefully moving John Jay High School, NISD Schools,San Antonio&Texas Schools up on some of those lists that joeinchino2000 mentioned. Additionally, there are NUMEROUS companies located throughout San Antonio that require the wearing of ID badges as a requirement for employment. Companies like Wells Fargo, USAA, UTSA employees, ACCD employees, SWBC, AT&T, Valero, oh yes&any one of the US Armed Forces just to name a few. And that is just here locally; multiply that by thousands when you look nationally. So if you really want to talk about "opening your mind" about things, why don't YOU try to wrap your head around the fact that requiring students to wear id badges while in school would maybe help to prepare them for a brighter future with a great company tomorrow. It may not be such a horrible fate after all for these poor students who feel it infringes on their rights. The only thing you were right about is this “greedy world” we live in. To that point I'd say ask yourself, does this country really care or want to spend ANY extra $ on any of us??? I’m thinking probably not. Stop making an argument just for arguements sake. The reality is it doesn't matter WHY kids don't WANT to attend school; they have to by law until 18. So instead of schools closing & kids being arrested for truancy & starting their lives out in the court system, why don't we try this first to give them & our schools a chance to succeed

This guy lives in my neighborhood in Alamo Ranch and I really feel I had to comment. 1) This guy is the biggest attention wh*re I know. He's made claims of having made citizen's arrests before and he views himself as some kind of wanna be authority figure. He's a busybody, constantly involving himself in neighbor's issues. And he's made previous attempts to contact media/TV stations for who knows what reasons. 2) The bigger issue is his hypocrisy. He spies on his neighbors (shouldn't that be against his 'religion' too?) and when he was on the neighborhood association board (which he constantly reminded people about) he would make bogus claims of association 'violations' against anyone, for whatever reason. Now he's crying foul about this and claiming his daughter doesn't have to follow the rules?? I'm not sure if he's got a full-time job, but I know he's home A LOT and I'm pretty sure this whole thing is just some kind of drama he's creating out of boredom or to get his face on TV. Sad part is, it seems like he's bullied his daughter into this drama and she's the one that will live with the consequences. Whether you agree or disagree with the ID badge issue, I think he's a hypocrite for trying to be an authority figure to everyone else but telling his daughter that she doesn't have to respect the appropriate authorities.

**our** have any of you heard the statement 'YOU CAN LEAD A HORSE TO WATER BUT YOU CANT MAKE IT DRINK"? because this is a great example.. the chip only puts them in school but its not going to make them learn anything. you still have to address the issue of why kids don't feel like they need to learn what is taught in the school..

Why don't we just let the kids do whatever they want whenever they want? Texas ranks SO high in education already. The reality is that this state lets kids leave school as half retarded loafs unable to do anything but contribute to the welfare state. You can't even have them flip burgers for fear that they would drool on the grill. One school steps up with a plan to keep track of where kids are while they are on campus which will reduce truancy as well as other types of crimes and they are treated like the enemy? The schools JOB is to make sure the kids are where they are supposed to be to LEARN. If you or your family are so religious that a school ID is too much for you, I suggest you look into home schooling. And now for some facts: •Texas is #49 in verbal SAT scores in the nation (493) and #46 in average math SAT scores (502). •Texas is #36 in the nation in high school graduation rates (68%). •Texas is #33 in the nation in teacher salaries. Teacher salaries in Texas are not keeping pace with the national average. The gains realized from the last state-funded across-the-board pay raise authorized in 1999, which moved the ranking from 33 to as high as 26th in the nation, have disappeared over the last five years. •Texas was the only state in the nation to cut average per pupil expenditures in fiscal year 2005, resulting in a ranking of #40 nationally; down from #25 in fiscal year 1999. •Texas is #6 in the nation in student growth. The general student population in Texas public schools grew by 11.1% between school years 1999 and 2005, with the largest percent of growth seen among low income and minority children. •Between school years 1999 and 2005, the number of central administrators employed by Texas public schools grew by 32.5%, overall staffing in public schools grew by 15.6%, while the number of teachers grew only 13.3%.

@anonymous- like i said.. if attendance is the issue then they are going about it the wrong way. you need to find out why the kids don't want to go to school in the first place. not "How can we keep them there?" the issues is KEEPING them in school is a lot easier then finding out why they don't want to go. all they have to do is make them wear a chip.. don't be so closed minded. this technology is not just going to stay in the school system.. how dense can you be.. you WILL eventually see this technology forced on the general public. it wont happen over night but it is as inevitable as our greedy world running out of oil.

This is purely for attendance purposes ONLY. The parents, teachers, students and administrators are all aware of it. The reason these measures are being taken is because some students, and sadly some parents, feel it is not necessary or important to attend school or to graduate. If attendance continued to drop at the alarming rates it had begun to drop since 2000, the district would have no choice but to close the school and bus the students who actually want to go there to another school. Some parents and students are upset about their kids being required to wear their id badges while at school. This is your right as a citizen & taxpayer to voice your concerns. But answer this, how upsetting would it be if your child had no school in the neighborhood to attend because the school administration had allowed the dropout rate to keep increasing and attendance to drop to a record low. Get a clue!! This is for the betterment of you and your child's futures. Wear the badge or enroll them in a different school, either way it's your choice as a parent to think about the best interest of your child. I highly doubt requiring a teenager to wear a badge will harm their mental well being any more than allowing them to color their hair, get body piercings, wear ripped up jeans or anything else these kids do to themselves these days. This has nothing to do with politics or America on a whole. It’s about this particular community wanting to keep their school open so that it will not end up like Edgewood or West Campus did.
