SAN ANTONIO -- The Parks and Recreation Department's 24 outdoor pools open for the summer season on Saturday, June 16, 2012 offering even more opportunities for our citizens to stay active and fit. Admission to all 24 outdoor pools is free. Hours of operation at 19 outdoor pools are 1 to 7 p.m., Tuesday through Sunday. Pools will be closed on Monday.
Five pools will operate Tuesday through Sunday from 2 to 8 p.m. in order to provide more time in the evening for working families to swim and stay active.
The pools staying open until 8 p.m. are Fairchild, 1214 E. Crockett; Kennedy, 3299 S.W. 28th St.; San Pedro Springs, 2200 N. Flores; Spring Time, 6571 Spring Time and Sunset Hills, 103 Chesswood.
San Pedro Pool will offer senior swim from 1:30 to 2 p.m., Tuesday through Friday.
Lap swimming for those who want to get in a low impact aerobic workout will be offered Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at the Department's regional pools; Heritage, 1423 Ellison Dr.; Lady Bird Johnson, 10700 Nacogdoches; South Side Lions, 3100 Hiawatha; and Woodlawn, 1100 Cincinnati.
The department's Aquatics Section offers water aerobics and swimming lessons for a nominal fee. The cost for water aerobics is $30 a month and the cost for swimming lessons is $30 per session. Register at the pool of your choice beginning June 16. The department also sponsors swim teams at all the pools.
Twenty pools close for the season on Aug. 19.
An extended swim season, from Aug. 21 to Oct. 27, will allow for open swimming and lap swimming at the four regional pools. The pools are Heritage, 1423 Ellison Dr.; Lady Bird Johnson, 10700 Nacogdoches; South Side Lions, 3100 Hiawatha; and Woodlawn, 1100 Cincinnati.
Lap Swimming is offered Tuesday through Thursday from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Open Swimming is offered Tuesday through Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Saturday from 1 to 7 p.m.
Pools will be also open from 1 to 7 p.m. for open swimming on Sunday, Aug. 26, and Sunday, Sept. 2, as well as the Labor Day Holiday, Monday, Sept. 3.
