SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio Police officer has been arrested following a sting operation conducted by the San Antonio Police Department and the FBI.
The U.S. Department of Justice states 36-year-old Curtis W. Lundy is charged with "theft of honest services by wire fraud."
"There are few things in public service that are worse than a bad cop and what happened last night angers me and disgusts me,” said San Antonio Police Chief William McManus.
According to investigators, Officer Lundy responded to a call concerning an assault at a North Side apartment complex on December 15th. Investigators said while Lundy was at the scene, he detained an individual who admitted he was in possession of marijuana and offered to hold off on filing the possession of marijuana charge in exchange for a $400 payment.
The individual then contacted the FBI about the incident and was able to make audio recording of his conversations with Lundy. A complaint states that during one of those conversations, Lundy set up a January 3rd meeting and raised the payment amount to $500. Investigators said they then set up a surveillance operation and observed Officer Lundy arrive in a marked San Antonio Police Department patrol vehicle and collect an envelope from the individual which contained $500. Lundy was then arrested Thursday night after he completed his shift.
Lundy faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a maximum fine of $250,000. He has been released on a personal recognizance bond.
