The fire started at the "New Earth Soil and Compost Plant" off the highway in a rural area. Firefighters tell News 4 WOAI the fire is contained, but crews remain on the scene to tackle hot spots and flare ups.

Firefighters say if you live or work in the area you can expect to see and smell smoke as the fire continues to burn. They predict it could take as many as 2 days to burn out.

No evacuations were ordered, but there is a thick plume of smoke which is covering the area.
