SAN ANTONIO - The San Antonio Water System has issued a boil water notice for customers in the city of Somerset, effective through Wednesday. The notice comes after contractors broke a water main and gas line Monday afternoon at 1604 and Somerset Rd.
SAWS issued the following boil water instructions:
To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to consumption.
The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes. In lieu of boiling, you may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source. When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, SAWS officials will notify you.
SAWS crews are working to restore water to the area, and will also be flushing water lines. The boil water notice is expected to remain in place through Tuesday. SAWS officials will notify customers when the boil water notice is lifted.
Bottled water is available at Somerset City Hall, and K Street and Somerset Road. Also a dispensing station is available to refill clean customer containers at 19260 Somerset Road.
Since the loss of pressure could result in air pockets in the system, individuals should open faucets and allow water to run temporarily in order to drain any remaining air pockets. Ice makers should be turned off until the boil water notice is lifted.
