SAN ANTONIO- An off-duty San Antonio police officer is recovering at University Hospital after he was dragged 100 yards by a pick up truck. Officer Albert Trevino is listed in stable condition after he suffered non-life threatening injuries from a hit and run accident.
The accident happened around 11 P.M. Saturday night on the 9000 block of Fredericksburg Road just south of Gus Eckert.
According to police, Officer Trevino was riding his motorcycle and turning into the Dominion Park Apartments when a white pick up truck, traveling at a high speed tried to pass another car. Police said that’s when the driver 20-year old James Bennack slammed into the officer. The motorcycle became lodged beneath the speeding truck, and the officer was dragged the length of a football field before his bike came free.
The driver of the truck kept going, but witnesses followed him to his apartment complex. Bennack was arrested and charged with intoxication assault and failure to stop and render aid. A woman who was with the suspect, 22-year old Raelyn Bennack was arrested for interfering with the duties of a public servant.
