SAN ANTONIO -- A man was arrested following a standoff with police at a Northeast Side motel.
Police received a call around 10:00 p.m. Thursday about a disturbance with a gun at the Budget Lodge at Loop 410 and Perrin Beitel. A police report states that when officers arrived, they were told by the motel staff and guests that gunshots had been heard coming from one of the rooms.
When the officers went to the room, they heard a man inside saying "Come and get me" and threatening to kill a woman who was inside the room with him. He also told the officers he would "take two or three of you with me." The officers said they then heard him say he had a gun in the woman's mouth and would kill her the moment the officers came into the room.
The officers evacuated the rooms nearby and called for special operations teams. The officers said the man continued to rant and fired another shot before SWAT and police negotiators arrived.
After several hours, the negotiators were able to convince the man to surrender. When he came out of the room, he was tased by a SWAT officer and taken into custody.
A police department spokesperson later identified the man as 41-year-old Mario Cigarroa. He now faces a charge of aggravate assault with a deadly weapon.
The 21-year-old woman police say Cigarroa was holding hostage was not injured.
