SAN ANTONIO -- A new study out of San Antonio Military Medical Center reveals a drop in the number of staph infections in the military.

Doctors studied more than nine million troops, retirees and their families.  They found the number of staph cases dropped between 2005 and 2010, although officials don't know why.

Staph infections are highly contagious, and can be spread by touching.  They are also resistant to common antibiotics.  Health officials say the best way to prevent staph is to keep cuts and scrapes clean and covered until they've healed.
