SAN ANTONIO -- Fire officials say a cigarette ignited an apartment complex fire that has left at least 12 people without a home.
Authorities say the fire broke out at the complex located in the 2500 block of Hicks Avenue on the Southeast side around 9:45 a.m. Saturday.
Four apartment units were destroyed in the fire and fast moving wind contributed to the blaze spreading.
All of the tenants escaped safely from their apartments. Damages were estimated at $50,000.
The Red Cross is assisting the families.
