SAN ANTONIO- Two San Antonio police officers were placed on administrative duty after firing shots at a suspect late Saturday night. The shooting happened in the 800 block of North Pine Street around 11:30 PM just east of downtown.
Officers were called out to a domestic dispute after a couple inside the home got into an argument and started fighting with knives.
The domestic dispute was between a man and his girlfriend, with three little girls caught in the middle of the knife slinging. The ordeal was scary enough for one of the girls to call 9-1-1.
San Antonio Police Chief William McManus said, “There was physical violence prior to the knife being involved. They were fighting over one knife”.
Within moments of the call for help officers arrived at the home along where they were greeted by a young girl who opened the door. But things quickly escalated when the suspect appeared at the door as well.
“The suspect male was standing at the door with a knife and as soon as the door opened he rushed to police officers with a knife,” explained Chief McManus.
The chief added, “The officers tried to back up, but the man still charged at them with a knife in hand”.
That's when both police officers took action and shot him.
The suspect was struck at least once in his mid-section. Nobody else was injured except one of the children that received a cut from broken glass.
The suspect was taken to SAMCC and was conscious at the time. He now faces aggravated assault on a peace officer.
