SAN ANTONIO- As the nation commemorates the events of September 11th this week; the anniversary holds special meaning for fire fighters and emergency responders.
In San Antonio fire fighters and police officers paid tribute to those who died on that unforgettable day by taking part in the Tunnel to Towers 5k Run at the Alamo Sunday morning.
The sole purpose was to follow in the footsteps of American heroes who sacrificed their lives on 9/11. And they did so in full gear that weighed anywhere from 35 to 60 pounds.
“All of these guys showed a great amount of heart. They're out here for the cause for all the fire fighter, police officers that we have lost in the line of duty,” explained Matt Porter, spokesperson for the San Antonio Police Department who also participated in the run.
In the end as they all crossed the finish line as they remembered, and will never forget 9/11.
The run is held in various cities throughout the nation. It was started in honor of Stephen Siller New York City Fire Fighter who laid down his life on 9/11.
The winner’s of the run in San Antonio were Officer John Seaton and Camelot fire fighter Marcus Munoz. Both will go on to represent San Antonio in the New York City Tunnel to Towers at the end of the month.
