SAN ANTONIO – Police need your help to track down a man suspected of holding up a convenience store and shooting one of the owners.
Officers say it happened around lunch time Monday at the Three Amigos Chinese store and restaurant on NW 36th Street, just north of Commerce on the west side.
Officers released a surveillance photo of the suspect. He’s wearing faded jeans, a black jacket and a black cloth ski mask with holes for the eyes cut out.
An ambulance rushed to the hospital – inside, a man in his sixties who neighbors know fondly as one of the store owners.
"Oh they are angels,” neighbor Anna Vasquez describes the owners. “Oh my God I can't believe – I can't believe this happened to them."
She says she’s shopped there her whole life and this is the first time crime scene tape has blocked the entrance.
"It's scary because we've got kids who come into the store all the time,” Vasquez says.
Police say the masked man came into the store and demanded cash.
"One of the store owners, a woman, was able to run away and get to the back of the store,” Sgt. Javier Salazar says.
Sgt. Salazar says the suspect shot a pistol several times, hitting the male store owner twice. No word on the injured man’s condition.
"The victim was alert and talking to EMS on the way out of here,” Sgt. Salazar says.
Officers searched for the suspect from their Eagle helicopter as neighbors watched in disbelief that someone would hold up a store in broad daylight.
"You gotta work for your money,” Vasquez says. “I hope you do get caught and you deserve what they give you."
