SAN ANTONIO- Residents living in an Eastside neighborhood where the San Antonio city limit ends and Bexar County continues say their crime-riddled neighborhood is falling between the cracks.
The area made headlines Sunday after someone started shooting near a strip center hitting a man in the shoulder. That strip center sits at the corner of Binz-Engelman and Candlemeadow.
The random shots had Bexar County Sheriff's Deputies and San Antonio Police investigating the crime, as well as looking for three suspects who remain on the run.
Sgt. James Hutmacher with the Bexar Count Sheriff's Office said, “This is kind of an area that overlaps with Bexar County Sheriff's patrol and San Antonio Police so our officers are always cooperating on the suspects in this area that live in and around here”.
You might say residents in that neighborhood feel safe to have two agencies looking after them. Instead, they feel they have fallen through the cracks.
You see to the north of Binz Engelman the area is patrolled by San Antonio Police and to the south the jurisdiction belongs to Bexar County.
I talked to a handful of people who live and work in this area, who were too scared to talk on camera. They all shared similar stories of drug related crimes that they have either witnessed or been a victim of.
Those crimes include narcotic violations, assault, burglary, and theft.
I’m told around the noon hour and well into the afternoon such drug dealings can be seen.
Law enforcement officials back that up adding that for years the area has been infested with drug related crimes. People living in the area said they would like to see more patrols and increased response times.
