Relative shoots girl in Halloween costume after mistaking her for a skunk

NEW SEWICKLEY TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania (NBC News Channel) -- A girl in a Halloween costume was shot by a relative who mistook her for an animal.

The 9-year-old was attending a Halloween party Saturday night. She was outside over a hillside and wearing a black costume with a white tassel. Thinking she was a skunk, a relative shot her with a shotgun, according to a local newspaper. She was hit in the shoulder and had to have surgery.

She's expected to be all right.

No charges have been filed.

You need to turn on the floodlights outside of your trailer before you start shooting. If you had actually shot a skunk instead of a girl, you'd have had some vittles for maw and paw and the younguns.

It is unwise and foolish to shoot a skunk with a shotgun. Shotguns don't have the range required for skunk shooting. Skunks smell real bad and it is especially bad if they are dead within shotgun range. Also, I believe this is just one more reason that it is unsafe to live in Pennsylvania. There are Christians there. Parts of the state are godly, but the skunks are evidently of a large size and could be dangerous. My advice is to avoid the place.

Man, they must have some real monsterously huge skunks up there. This dude needs a better story, like "Man I was so stoned, I thought it was a skunk and shot it". THAT I would believe.
