BOERNE, Texas -- The widow of a cyclist killed in a hit-and-run Thursday night is begging for help to find the driver responsible.  68-year-old Dr. Larry Becker was riding his bike on the IH-10 access road north of Boerne at about 7 p.m., when investigators say he was hit by a driver who took off and left Becker in the ditch.  He died at the scene, about three miles away from his home of 25 years.

"You can't just kill somebody and drive away," his widow Dorothy Becker said.  "I prayed for a hedge of protection every time he went riding and I didn't Thursday night. The night of his first accident, I didn't either."

Dr. Becker was hit once before about two years ago.  That driver stopped and called 911, but ever since then, he made sure to be extra careful.

"He had his helmet on," Dorothy said, while wiping away tears. "It was daylight. He had a bright bike shirt on. He had a red flashing light on the back of his seat."

Dorothy said investigators believe a truck may have hit him. A devoted father to two sons, Dr. Becker was a retired Army Colonel, a professor at the UT Health Science Center and he opened the first dermatology clinic in Boerne. Dorothy says he was a well-liked and respected doctor, even after he retired from private practice.

Dorothy and her sons now hope someone will come forward and help them find the driver responsible for his death.

"God knows who he is and where he is. If law enforcement doesn't find him, someone will report him. It'll be found out."

DPS troopers say no one witnessed the accident and investigators are looking at nearby business surveillance video for clues. If you know anything about the crime, you're urged to call the Kendall County Sheriff's Office at 830-249-9721.

The family is requesting any donations be made to the Kendall County Crime Stoppers or the First Baptist Church of Boerne.

I hope they catch whoever did this. That being said, this story and others like it are all I need to never risk my life biking on a road where cars travel. It may be a legal right, but it's a life or death gamble with all of the distracted or drunk drivers out there. It's not as fun but I'd rather bike on a machine at the gym than risk my hide out on the roads!

How sad. Mrs. Becker my heart and prayers go out to you. My husband who is also a physician and my children ride their bikes as your husband did. I've at times thought about the careless way some people drive and whisper to God for their safety. I pray God brings you great comfort and that God will expose who did this. Marlene

Very sad, but why on earth would anybody ride a bike along the highway access road anyway? With all of the drivers completely distracted by their important lives of phone calls, texting, etc. that they are doing while driving, I am surprised this does not happen more often.

No shame in this part of Texas. Rotten people do evil things and shrug it off. Ugh!
