AUSTIN, Texas -- You have to be 21 years of age to buy alcohol in Texas. Soon, you may have be that age to buy cigarettes.
State Senator Carlos Uresti, who is from San Antonio, has filed a bill that would increase the legal age to buy, possess, or consume tobacco products to 21.

Uresti says the reason behind the bill is that tobacco kills more people than alcohol, aids, car crashes, illegal drugs and murders combined.
He also says upping the age of access will save the state money on Medicaid and more importantly young lives.
