SAN ANTONIO - Starting Monday, January 7th, a small school district in our area will have armed sheriff's deputies patrolling the campuses. It's a direct response to the school shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary in Connecticut.
The Navarro Independent School District, outside Seguin,
posted a notice on Facebook Friday announcing the beefed up security. The superintendent previously sent a letter home to parents telling them off-duty deputies would be paid to patrol all four campuses, during the school day starting January 7th.
"At church last Sunday morning, our priest tried to talk about the tragedy, had difficulty, and asked if anyone else would speak," wrote Navarro ISD Superintendent Dee Carter. "I surprised my husband and myself when I stood up and talked about how angry I am that we live in a world where our children are growing up wondering if they might get shot in school, and teachers have to worry how they would react if the unthinkable happened."
