SAN ANTONIO -- Police are looking for two people they say ran over an off-duty police officer at a local park over the weekend.

News 4 WOAI was told the officer encountered two people using drugs at Kennedy Park and spotted a gun on the dashboard of their car. As the suspects tried to leave, the officer was knocked to the ground and her leg was run over. The officer fired two shots at the suspects, but it's not known if either of them were hit.

The two men left in an older model green Cadillac.

If you have any information about this hit and run, please immediately contact Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP (7867), submit a tip online, or text a tip by texting "Tip 127 plus your tip" to CRIMES (274637).

Just so you know, @luigiLewis, SAPD are REQUIRED to carry their weapons at all times, including off-duty. She may not have had a phone on her. And where in the world did folks on this blog get the idea they were using marijuana? The article referenced that the two suspects were using drugs. I agree with you totally, @JohnJames. Lots of anti-cop rhetoric on here, when it’s just uncalled for. Geez.

An off duty cop carrying her gun around, and obviously eager to use it, that's the scariest part...why didn't she just call for on duty cops?

This is why Marijuana should be made legal..Sorry but the US spends north of 2 billion a year fighting a "war" that we will never win. It's also just been proven that the use of marijuana is less harmful on the lungs..and the body in whole..And if the US did make it legal our deficit would be less and there would be jobs in markets that had things involved with it..growing, harvesting, drying, packaging, marketing, and distribution..not to mention taxes that could be collected..instead of spent..It would also be less of a strain on the judicial system as well as the prison system..Fact..there are over 1 million people in jail for non violent crimes involving marijuana..Even Ron Paul says it should be legal..and he's also a Dr.

and get a license plate number if you see crime, that always helps more than a vague description of people.

if you hang out at local parks long enough, you'll see something you don't want to see. either used condoms or a aluminum foil used pot pipe or kids screaming at each other they're gay or something stupid. but you can call the non-emergency police number to report these things which will help keep your neighborhoods safer (and don't forget there's tons of Registered Sex Offenders living all over San Antonio and even out in the boonies, just look at the Database for yourself at any zip code). I like going to theme parks and places like the zoo to take the family, more security to get some outdoor walking, I hope they open the theme parks up more year round like the zoo is open 365, we need more safe outdoor places, lots of weirdos everywhere.

Let me get this straight, you're off duty and you see people getting high in a park. Instead of calling for back-up, you decide to be a Hero & wind up getting run over & recklessly discharge your weapon? Since they got away, we only have your word that there was a gun in the car. Seems like a lot of drama for people who might have been smoking some weed. Just sayin....
