SAN ANTONIO - A San Antonio police officer who was hit by a pickup truck is slowly recovery months after he nearly died.
It's been nearly three months since 28-year-old Officer Jonathan Esquivel was struck while trying to help clear an accident along Loop 410 and Evers. He's undergone ten surgeries since the accident and is still unable to walk. He's currently living at a rehabilitation facility.
“He was actually bleeding to death. He had lost three pints of blood. His intestines, his bladder had been shattered and stuff,” explained Officer Robert Esquivel, the victim’s father.
Officer Esquivel's father says the investigation is still pending against the driver who was allegedly texting at the time of the crash.
In the meantime, fellow officers have organized a BBQ fundraiser and raffle for this Saturday at the VFW Post 76. The money raised will assist with necessary medical expenses.
