SAN ANTONIO -- A San Antonio Police officer is nursing some bumps and bruises after he was hit by an SUV while on duty.

The motorcycle officer was trying to make a traffic stop on Military Drive around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday night when the SUV hit him. The driver of the SUV says he was pulling away from a stop sign and didn't see the officer. That driver will not be cited.

The officer was taken to Methodist Hospital with minor injuries and is expected to be fine.

The driver the officer was trying to pull over got away.

David Howard, Those officers that write speeding tickets, and I have a suspicion you recently received one or got popped for a DWI are the only reason that you and the rest of us are able to drive on the highway without being run over by a drunk, some young dolt with a rice burner that he thinks is a racecar, or someone speaking on the phone. When was the last time you removed a drunk from behind the wheen of a two thousnad pound projectile. Motorcycle officers can be pretty sneaky and are able to hide in very inconspicuous places. I will be the first to acknowledge that some make daredevil manuevers in order to get into position to make a traffic stop. This is the nature of the beast. Might I add that the last few officers to die in the line of duty in San Antonio died at the hands of drunk drivers. There was an officer who dided on Culebra and 410 a few years back who was working traffic, and then about a year and a half ago an officer died when she was hit head on on 35 by a DWI offender. I recently spoke to a traffic officer on who was working on 410 near Broadway who stated he had stopped multiple violators for exceeding 100 MPH. I bet you would change your tune if one of them smashed into you and put you in the hospital.

I never saw any police flashing blue and red lights. I thought it was a sonic sign.

BEST NEWS EVER! These idiots are the most reckless people that I have ever seen. They think that those red & blue lights create some kind of impenetrable shield around themselves. I hope stuff like this happens more and more and maybe those idiot cops will knock it off. Say Mr. Policeman - next time you are sitting on the side of the highway with your head lights off on the opposite side of a blind curve, think about whether it is worth your life to write that speeding ticket. Think about whether it is worth it to your family. As a taxpayer this BS makes me very mad. I don't care if the oinker gets killed or not. That's on him for being reckless. I am just bothered by the waste to our tax dollars for vehicle damage and hospital bills and lawsuits.
