SAN ANTONIO - Police are looking for a hit and run driver following the death of 26-year-old Hortencia Esquivel. According to police, she was walking along the access road of 1-35 near Somerset after an argument with a boyfriend when she was struck and killed.
It's a tough day for a family trying to figure out what went wrong. Esquivel was hit and killed leaving behind three children.
"She was a great daughter in-law, a great mother and great sister. She loved her kids," Sharon Shafer said through tears.
Shafer is still in shock after losing her former daughter-in law just before dawn Friday morning.
"I am so sorry to say that we lost her and my heart goes out to my grand kids," Shafer said.
The paternal grandmother went to the victim’s apartment with her son Robert Morales. Esquivel had three children and Morales is the father of two of them. He and the young mother met as teenagers and they later married.
The couple divorced and now Morales is at the victim's apartment to gather clothing and toys for his 11 year old daughter and nine year old son who are moving into his home.
Police and still searching for the driver in this hit and run case and anyone with information is being asked to call Crime Stoppers at 224-STOP.
