The San Antonio Police Department is trying something new this year for their recruitment period.

The department has parked patrol cars in three locations with "Now Hiring" signs in the windows.

The units are at I-35 and Rittiman, I-10 and Foster road, and  US-281 and Nakoma.

The department said the plan serves two purposes.

"It makes people slow down in those areas. And then it also, you know, they are going to look at the patrol car, and the people that we are looking for are people that are attentive, things of that nature," explained San Antonio Police Department spokesman Officer Joe Rios. "So if people see the car, they are going to know what it is asking"

The police department already seen an increase in the number of applicants.
