SAN ANTONIO -- Officials arrested 32-year old Ausencio Jimenez Luria over the weekend for allegedly raping a mentally challenged 20-year-old woman inside his West Side taqueria.
Police documents show the victim has the mental capacity of a 10-year-old child.
Authorities say the victim is believed to be a family friend who thought she was stopping by the restaurant to visit the suspect's stepdaughter. San Antonio police say the alleged incident happened on October 17th in the 6000 block of West Commerce.
News 4 WOAI spoke with Luria's wife, who says she does not believe her husband could have committed such a crime.
Luria claims he did stop by his shop with the victim to drop off some supplies, but said the two never got out of the truck. An affidavit for his arrest shows he later changed his story and confessed he did have physical contact with the victim.
"I'm just shocked because he's a very great guy," says Ahamad Sheikh, who owns a convenience store just next door. "He's very quiet, him and his wife. It's just shocking that he could do that."
Anthony Garcia has been a frequent customer to the taqueria for 21 years. "We all know each other here, we all take care of each other here, and for this to happen... I can't believe that, I'm shocked."
Luria is being detained at the Bexar County Detention Center charged with aggravated sexual assault of a disabled individual. He is being held on a $75,000 bond. If convicted, he could spend up to 99 years behind bars.
