SAN MARCOS, Texas – A man was shot by a home’s resident after the suspect allegedly broke in, according to police here.

It happened just before 10 p.m. Wednesday in the 700 block of Oscar Smith Dr. Investigators say three residents were in the home when the male suspect forced his way in through a backdoor.

The man was armed with a BB gun, which, according to police, looked like an authentic pistol. One of the residence’s occupants then produced a real firearm and fired numerous shots at the intruder. He was hit by some of the bullets and fled on foot.

Later, a man showed up at the Central Texas Medical Center in San Marcos with several gunshot wounds. He was later taken to an Austin hospital.

The man, whose identity has not been released, is reportedly in stable condition on Thursday morning. Police are continuing their investigation.
