SAN ANTONIO- An on-going feud between two neighbors lead to one of them setting the other's home on fire. Some neighbors were shocked the feud escalated to such a level adding that it was no secret there had been "bad blood" between the two for some time.
According to witnesses the argument between the suspected arsonist, 32-year old Maria de Jesus Perez and the victim started early Saturday morning in the front lawn of the San Juan Square II apartments on the southwest side.
One neighbor even recorded the two women on his cell phone as they were screaming at each other.
The witness who captured the argument on his cell phone said there was pounding at his door for help a few hours after the fight. When he ran out, he said he saw Maria pour lighter fluid on her enemy’s apartment window and then lit it with a match.
While it did catch on fire not much damage could be seen as the flames were quickly put out. But neighbors say it could have been a lot worse. The building could have gone up in flames and people could have been seriously hurt.
“I’m just shocked. I wouldn't think that she would do anything like that,” explained Priscilla Nevarez, a neighbor.
Maria de Jesus Perez was arrested and charged with arson. There is no word yet if the other woman involved in the fight faces any charges.
