SAN ANTONIO -- San Antonio Police say an "experienced" cyclist was hit and killed by a 17-year-old boy, who was speeding down West Avenue seconds before the collision.
The cyclist, 55-year-old Devan Smith, died at the scene.
Police say Smith had just turned onto West Avenue from West Silver Sands before the teen drove through the intersection and crashed into him. Witnesses told police the teen was weaving in and out of traffic in his Dodge Ram pickup truck. After hitting Smith, he hit a sign and then a utility pole, police said. The pole snapped and a large portion ended up in a neighbor's backyard.
Police said the teen was released and may be charged with manslaughter. The investigation is ongoing, and police at the scene were investigating who had the right of way.
