If nothing else the injured dog owners should sue...ASAP... or else the PB owner will likely file bankruptcy... this seems the way of too may PB owners when their dogs attack. At least get the vet bills taken care of...

diamondgurl...did you REALLY read your post before you submitted that garbage? "it's the pit bull's fault because the owner couldn't fix their fence..." that must be some talented dog to be able to build a gdamn fence...moron...and melanielove - most people in this town, no matter what side of town, shouldn't own Pits or any other type of dog. they can't even take care of their human children, much less other species of animal.

I keep my cat, Peter, on a least, when we go out for a walk in the neighborhood. Peter, my cat, is aggressive and tends to attack dogs and small children that are not dressed properly. That is why I keep him on a least, lest things get out of control.

I have been attacked by a pitbull off the leash in this same neighborhood and injured and mentally disturbed by my attack just 72 hours ago. People in this neighborhood do not care about restraining their pitbulls. It is a fashion statement in this neighborhood to own a pitbull. When owners realize the breed is difficult to contain in a fence they don't care about restraining the animal, and let them roam regardless of the danger it poses on innocent homeowners like myself. Owners in this neighborhood are very lax about leash laws period. You will always see me with my dogs leashed, and the lady with the boxer, she leashes but almost everyone else doesn't care, at least out of the regular dog walkers I see around here. I have reported the issue to the HOA about how nobody leashing their animals. Please people stop bringing pitbulls in to this subdivision because nobody is properly restraining them and the are attacking people and other dogs. I am going to start calling ACS to get all these pitbulls roaming around the neighborhood. Being attacked myself the other day was the last straw! Dont buy a pit southsiders, its a menace, nobody takes proper responsibility!!!!!

@210SACHIC, your comment makes me wonder how many times that little dog had gone to the pit bull's fence and harrassed it, and was possibly in fact part of the reason the pb chewed the hole it its fence!! This is sounding more and more like the fault of the small dog and its owner!!! I still hope the little dog makes a full recovery, but the pit bull is seeming more and more like the real victim in this story. The fact that the neighbors were able to break the two dogs apart and chain the pit up without being bitten or hurt speaks VOLUMNS about the personality and demeanor of the pit bull and the fact that it is NOT human aggressive or vicious!!!! Thank you, 210SACHIC, for your post!!!!

I heard from a reliable source that the owners of the little dog were too lazy to walk their dog. They would just open the door and let it do it's business while they stayed inside. The little dog went over to the fence where the Pit Bull was and antagonized the Pit Bull. The Pit Bull got out and decided that the little dog was a chew toy. The owners only came running out when they heard their little dog yelping. I think the little dog's owners should be fined. It was their fault! I have a small and large dog and I always keep them on leash. I get so angry with people with small dogs that think that just because their dog is small it's ok. It's not OK! Keep your dogs on their leashes for their own safety. This is why! The Pit Bull should have had a better fence but that little dog should not have been running loose and give the Pit Bull a reason to escape! By the way I have a Foxhound and a Westi-poo and he looks exactly like the dog attacked. But I love my dogs too much to ever risk their safety!

Ultimately, each situation and incident comes down to responsibility...that of the dog owner, that of the parent, that of the "other" dog owner (if applicable), that of the breeder, that of the local & state dog laws, etc. And, the responsibility of the resolution of the incident falls on all humans involved, common sense, and realization of the truth of the incident. For the rest of us on the outside looking in and passing judgment...............unless you were a witness and know all the facts fully, you cannot stand in judgment of the incident, or of the dog, in MOST instances. One more thing....how many lie about the reality of events because they cannot and will not take responsibility for their own actions that may have been a contributing factor to the incident? I'll NOT continue to expound on that type of useless and worthless individual, but I do wonder how many lives of good dogs they've taken with their lies and/or irresponsibility. And, many have not cost just the lives of innocent animals. Need I say more?

agreed! and do you people (not referring to you butterfly) know that if you wake a sleeping dog by getting in it's face you may "face" terrible consequences? ANY dog? think about it...how often if you are suddenly woken up are you startled? a dog can bite out of being startled...ANY dog. if our boys are "dreaming" even though it's totally cute, we wake them up by saying their names until they wake up....NOT by going over to them and shaking them
