SAN ANTONIO - A deputy was hit by an SUV on the Northeast Side.

The accident happened at 4:30 this Saturday afternoon. Officers tell us the deputy was making a U-turn on Binz Engleman at Maiden Way when he was hit by the SUV.

Emergency crews had to cut the door off his patrol unit to get the deputy out of the vehicle. He was taken to Northeast Baptist Hospital, and is expected to be okay.

Three women in the SUV were taken to Northeast Methodist Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

@Paladin: if you look closely at the picture, the police officer was making an illegal u-turn. Since I wasn't there it is difficult to say that it was an inattentive driver at fault but at least the photo shows an illegal u-turn.

Maybe they should arrest the other driver for inattentive driving (failure to recognize potential driving hazards) or was she on her cell phone ???
