SAN ANTONIO - One man was killed and another injured when the car they were in went over an embankment and landed upside down in a pond.
Deputies were called to Shaenfield Road, near Loop 1604, around 1:00 a.m. Thursday. They said the driver, 26-year-old Jordan Ray Lopez, was going too fast when he hit a curb and went over the embankment.
When emergency crews arrived, they found the car partially submerged and continuing to take on water. Rescue crews and a tow truck were called to the scene to help. Teams were eventually able to pull Lopez and his dog from the wreckage, but the passenger in the vehicle, 25-year-old Justin Lambaria, died at the scene.
Lopez was taken to University Hospital for treatment and faces a charge of intoxication manslaughter.
