SAN ANTONIO -- Parents of murdered children live with the grief of losing their loved ones every day. Tuesday, parents here at home honored and remembered their children with a candlelight vigil, on the 14th annual National Day of Remembrance for murder victims.
Patty Hernandez has wondered for nearly two years who killed her son, 20-year-old Eric Mendoza. He was the victim of an apparent road rage shooting on October 21, 2010. Hernandez said Mendoza had just left work at Frito Lay and was heading to a friend's house off IH 35 and Rittiman.
"He told his friend somebody had cut him off but, 'I'm almost at your house.' He never made it," she said.
Police said he was shot at least twice and hit several mailboxes and a pole on Village Path before his truck finally stopped. The engine was still running when investigators arrived.
"The only thing that they think is a four door Dodge sedan with two individuals inside," she said, welling up with tears.
Despite billboards and passing out fllyers, Hernandez says no tips have come in. She's pleading for someone to come forward.
"I would ask from the bottom of my heart, if anybody knows. As a parent, anybody else in the same situation would want to have some sort of peace and to know and to have justice. That's all I want, justice," Hernandez said.
