SAN ANTONIO - A paralyzed Alamo Heights athlete is finally home with his family. Eddie Moreno Jr. was released from the hospital Monday, about eight months after he was paralyzed in a March road rage shooting.
He arrived in an ambulance, surrounded by hundreds of cheering friends and family members. His home was rebuilt by hundreds of volunteers and donors in just a few months.
"It's truly a blessing and I'm very thankful for all of y'all," Eddie said.
Eddie had not seen the construction work and he took a tour for the first time Monday evening. His wheelchair moved easily through the house, which was designed so he could be included in every room and not miss a minute with the family.
"It's everything I thought it would be," he said. "Thank you to everyone who prayed for me and who believed in me."
Eddie spoke slowly because of his ventilator.
"None of this would be possible without y'all. Thank you," he said and the crowd exploded into cheers.
The family is looking forward to spending Thanksgiving together. For more information about Operation Bring Eddie Home,
