SAN ANTONIO -- A locked box didn’t stop a thief who cut a rope and stole a flag honoring military heroes this Friday morning around ten on the Northwest Side.

“We have a lock box on the flag, so no one could mess with the flag," said Brandon Morgan.

He is a veteran and treasurer for the Woodridge Village Subdivision. He showed us surveillance video of a man pacing in front of the neighborhood where a flag pole displays the US and a POW flags.

"You can see here, they sliced it and left the American flag."

Morgan told us the man captured on video cut the cord and ran off with the military flag.

The theft is offensive and shocking to the many military families in this neighborhood.

William Perez was driving into the subdivision to help his daughter with projects. The Vietnam vet is upset by what happened.

"I just can't believe it. Why? These people that died for our country, were put in prison. I have a buddy who died in Vietnam," he expressed.

Morgan said the neighborhood association filed a police report and hopes someone can recall seeing the thief. The information might help officers make an arrest.

According to Morgan, homeowners are getting a steel cable to hold the flags and possibly prevent another theft when a new flag starts waving in honor of veterans soon.

210bro-chacho!! i guess, its your neighborhood..it just may be that the POW flag is seen in a different perspective when one serves in a combat M.O.S. rather than an admin/medical or even a chow-makers M.O.S.....BTW sir, thank you for your service to this great nation!!

it's depressing. makes me feel like the neighborhood is full of Rambo's. I don't want neighbors like that. I served my country too so I can validate my opinion. I'm not buying a house with a POW/MIA flag at the entrance. Maybe put up an American or Texas flag instead. Sorry if for being honest, but put it on a bumper sticker or tattoo, not at the entrance of where I live. It looks like you're entering a POW camp everytime you get home. sucks.

210bro- Everyone entitled to their own opinion, but yours is not the wisest in a military community such as San Antonio.

I don't know, could be a concerned homeowner who doesn't want to depress visitors to his neighborhood. Why don't they just put an Auschwitz Memorial at the gate too if your going to go with that sort of theme y'know?

Not surprised by someone proving their hatred for those served their country. Am surprised that they didn't take the flagpole.

It's good to hear they'll replace it with steel rope. Thieves have no shame, that flag will probably end up hanging in someone's basement or garage as a decoration, that's what some do with stolen street signs. Disgraceful.
