PIEDRAS NEGRAS, Mexico - Up to 132 prisoners escaped the Cereso prison in Piedras Negras Monday afternoon, sparking a search by federal police and soldiers in an area close to the U.S. border. Eighty-six of those prisoners were serving sentences or pending trials for federal crimes, including drug trafficking. The rest faced state charges.

They escaped making a tunnel, believed to be almost 100 feet in length and 9 feet deep, in order to avoid a concrete perimeter fence. The tunnel started in a woodshop room located inside the prison and was built going north, towards an outdoor patio. It's believed they then broke through a mesh fence and fled.

Prison employees are being investigated to determine how the prison break occurred. Coahuila state's Attorney General Homero Ramos Gloria says the director of the prison in Piedras Negras and two other employees have been detained for investigation.

Mexican officials are appealing to the United States for help in capturing all the escapees. The Zocala newspaper reports Mexican officials are offering cash rewards for every prisoner caught.

In December 2010, 153 inmates escaped from a prison in the northern city of Nuevo Laredo, right across from Laredo, Texas. Authorities charged 41 guards with aiding the inmates in that escape. Mexico's drug gangs frequently try to break their members out of prison.

Why would anyone stalk you OMGBBQ? Anyway, to think there is no cartel influence is S.A. is unrealistic. If I recall, some property tied to a few members of the cartel was seized right here in good ole S.A. Our jails are filled with members of these groups. Not sure what makes you an expert, but I question your ignorance to the facts. Their hope for success, is your belief in nonexistence. But in the case of the jail break, if we were conservative, 15 of them are in Texas right now. Half of them probably have family here in the U.S., legal or not. But, let's welcome them with open arms cause they are oppressed in their home country. They scream Viva la Mexico, but they all want to defect here. Go figure. So whether cartel or farmer, who wants to live in Mexico?

They probably escaped on purpose to get locked up in one of our Hilton Hotels we call prison. Three square meals, internet, college, recreation sports, medical, makes sense to me.

OMGBBQ: Considering your previous comments: "that's the face of racism right there... John K, I gave up on cops ages ago... mostly for being harassed for no damn reason.... wait.. wait... I am brown... that was the reason..." And you know way more than others on the mexican drug trade so you say. Hmmm, must be involved in it? Don't think big brother doesn't monitor what's said on the internet mi amigo.
