SAN ANTONIO -  While the faithful flocked to churches for ashes on Ash Wednesday, one congregation in San Antonio decided to take church to the people at a food truck park.

The Hope Arise United Methodist Church offered prayers and ashes at the park at Highway 281 near Lookout Canyon.

While unconventional, Pastor Dawn Baird said the idea was born out of a kind of necessity.

"What better place to receive ashes? You're not only being spiritually fed, you can also be physically fed," said Pastor Baird.

The church does not have a permanent home.

It meets at Cibolo Green Elementary every week.

Pastor Baird said they plan to provide ashes next year at more locations.
