FDNY, I don't think using the work mijo in everyday situations like you do with your friend's kid is bad; however, the way you used it in this story is... you are suggesting it is a person who speaks Spanish that committed the crime... the context is bad... not the word... BACKTOYOU went very specific with his description... if that's not you, then why care so much about it? unless it is you...

BACKTOYOU: who said I was alluding to anything about race?! LOL I love when people bring race into something to attack another and then blame the other party for bringing race into it. (Chuckles and shakes head) I call my best friend's kid mijo and neither of us are Hispanic. What- only Hispanic folks can say "mijo?" My badness for being surrounded by a certain culture for ten years and having adopted some of the terms from that culture. Guess I'm not so racist after all, huh. And look at you! IMMEDIATELY throwing in meth head white folk into it when let's be honest- this person could have been ANY race- White, Black, Hispanic, hell Native American...but no where do I sit there and call him Juan, or Jamal, or Seth or Idiot like you decided to stoop down to the level of a five year old and call me.

Bad guys have more rights with law enforcement officers than with private citizens. As a citizen you don't have to worry about announcing yourself as a peace officer or worrying about Miranda Rights and possibly even Civil Rights violations. Just know where you stand (legally) before you put those two rounds to the chest and one to the head.

Lincoln Village is a gated community . . . supposedly a bit "safer" than the ordinary neighborhood. Crime, it seems, happens everywhere. Can't say the officer did anything wrong, but as a (supposedly) trained professional I would think he wouldn't have fired "blind", unable to identify what he was shooting at until after he fired and hit someone.

Other news sites give more information. They say that the officer and two guests were asleep when the intruder broke the kitchen window and tried to come in. There is nothing wrong with protecting your own life and the life of your guests. I'm surprised by the number of posts wanting the intruder detained and held down for police. If you break into someone's home at 3:30am you are asking for trouble. Consider yourself lucky if you aren't shot and killed.
