SAN ANTONIO- Since the start of the year, 50 people have been murdered in San Antonio.
One of the latest murder cases happened last week when a man was found dead inside his Northside home. As police search for a suspect, the latest murder is one of an estimated two dozen this year that are unsolved.
“Well I certainly hope this one gets solved,” said Carol Blocker as she talks about her neighbor’s death.
Sixty-seven year old Roland Castillo, known as Danny was found dead inside his home on the 2700 block of Wilborn Street last Thursday.
Blocker said, “I don't know what happened, it doesn't appear like a robbery kind of thing because there were an awful lot of valuable things left behind”.
According to San Antonio Police Chief William McManus they are still investigating Castillo’s death and have not yet named a suspect. But, he said one murder is one too many.
The chief said they saw more murders at the start of the year, but those numbers have since leveled off.
From January through late June of 2011 there were 43 murders. For that same time frame this year the number already stands at 50.
And while Blocker said she has heard about some of the murders in our city in the past she has never kept up with the cases, until now.
She said, “If they find someone and they're prosecuting I want to be there and I want to see the prosecution win”.
As police work to solve one of the most recent murders in the city, they are working with witnesses on the case that may have seen anything suspicious.
