SAN ANTONIO -- If your eyes and nose are itching and you've got a sore throat or stuffy head chances are you're suffering from allergies.

Cedar fever is taking over San Antonio.

We're about a week into mountain cedar season and the weather plays a big role. Thursday, with the winds, the level was so high even people who never have problems with cedar fever are now feeling under the weather.

Allergist Dr. Paul Ratner says: “We had our highest count so far this season at 7600 pollen grains per cubic meter of air, which is pretty high for mountain cedar.”

Mountain cedar season is worst this time of the year in San Antonio and it always starts right after the holidays.

Letty Jones suffers from allergies and she says she starts “…noticing it in my eyes, they itch a lot...my nose itches...I have a little bit of a runny nose.”

And this year could turn out to be one of the worst. Mountain cedar season won't be over until the middle of next month.

Try to pay attention to what the weather is doing - symptoms will be worse when it's cold and windy. And try to avoid being outside whenever possible.

Mountain cedar research trials are being conducted right now. If you'd like more information - you can call 210-416-NOSE (6673).
