SAN ANTONIO -- The Bexar County Sheriff's Office burglary unit has been busy.

Since January the unit has investigated more than 1300 burglaries. One hundred seventeen burglaries were reported last month.

Sgt. Sal Marin said most of the break-ins are happening in northwest and west Bexar County, but also on the northeast side as well. Investigators rely on all sorts of things to crack a case including witnesses and surveillance video.

Deputies are turning to the public to help identify a burglar who is captured on surveillance camera stealing landscaping equipment in the 4200 block of Loring Park. The crime happened back on November 28th. The video shows the man walking up to a residence and looking into the bed of a pickup truck parked in the driveway.

"He literally rummages through the property, and picks out what he likes best, picks it up simply walks away with it, " said Sgt. Sal Marin, with the Bexar County Sheriff's Office.

Sgt. Marin says the best thing a person can do to protect themselves is to use common sense. Keep your doors lock, your lights on, and don't leave your property out where thieves can see it.

Too bad most San Antonians lack common sense.
