LIVE OAK, Texas -- Judson Independent School District has decided to cancel its order for beef from the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the 2012-2013 school year.

Judson ISD officials made the decision following reports about "pink slim" in beef. They say that although the USDA announced school district's could "opt out" of buying beef with pink slime, no instructions have been provided, to date, about how to do so.

Judson ISD now plans to order beef from a commercial vendor, which has certified, in writing, it does not use ammonia-treated beef fillers.

My research is correct and I quoted directly from my research source. Easy to verify. Google or bing "pink slime". I do agree with you about all the stuff they we don't know we're eating.

If Lervia's research is correct, it doesn't sound all that bad to me... hell, if people knew about half the stuff they eat, we'd all starve...

There's nothing wrong with what they call pink slime. It's just a form of meat filler that's in all kinds of cheap things some people buy at the grocery store. Think about what's in baloney and weenies and such. It's OK to use at school as long as it's going to the children who get free lunches and to those children who can't prove that they are in the country legally. All the other children whose parents pay for their lunches should get food that doesn't have slime or fillers. Too many of the school children who get free lunch are not entitled to it. Most of their parents spend all their money on beer, whiskey, dope, and pornography, so they don't have money left over for the childrens' food. Taking what you're not entitled to is the same as stealing, and stealing is a sin and an abomination against God and Jesus.

You have to love our tax dollars at work the USDA told organizations they could opt out but gave no info what so ever on how to do so or gave zero cooperation when efforts were made to try and find out hence the cancelled orders. So this is a little taste of what Government does for you can you just imagine what will happen when they start running the show as far as your health care is concerned. Ohhh Myyyyy.

@recowger: Actually, from my research, it's been called, derogatorily, pink slime for several years. The "name" pink slime was coined by a Federal microbiologist. Quote: "Just what exactly is pink slime? It's actually "lean finely textured beef," a low-cost ingredient in ground beef made from fatty left over meat trimmings from other cuts. The bits are heated to about 100 F and spun to remove most of the fat, then compressed into blocks for use in ground meat. The product, made by South Dakota-based Beef Products Inc. (BPI), is then exposed to "a puff of ammonium hydroxide gas" to kill bacteria, such as E. coli and salmonella."

Does not "sprayed one time" equate to something being "treated?"
