SAN ANTONIO -- It's a scary thought! What's a Halloween without the oldest haunted house in San Antonio? The holiday will be a lot less frightening in the future, because Nightmare on Grayson will be closing down for good after this season.
After 24 years of scaring several generations of people, Gordon Wise says they decided to close because of rising costs and a few slow seasons.
"You take the potential income per square foot in this building and compare that to what we made the last few years annually on a haunted house and it weighed heavily. We could do better leasing out the space," he said.
Wise said they were unable to find a new location to move the haunted house and the building will most likely become living and retail space.
The doors open Friday, Sept. 28 for what will be the final "year of fear." Wise says he hopes this will be the best year yet.
