SAN ANTONIO - For the first time ever, the American Academy of Pediatrics has developed a set of guidelines to treat diabetes in children.
Experts said children who have such low blood sugar that it can't be determined whether they have type one or type two diabetes should be put on insulin therapy.
Everyone else should be treated with the popular diabetes drug metformin, and speak with experts about changes they can make to their diet and exercise routine.
The new guidelines are for children ages 10 to 18.
