DALLAS (AP) - Texas prison officials are changing the way they do executions due to a drug shortage.

Texas has been using the sedative pentobarbital in combination with two other drugs.

But the Texas Department of Criminal Justice said in a statement to The Associated Press on Tuesday that it will now use pentobarbital by itself.

Department spokesman Jason Clark says the agency changed its protocol Monday because its stock of one of the other drugs expired.

Pentobarbital also is in short supply as its maker stopped selling it for executions last year. Texas officials said in May that the state had enough doses for 23 executions.

Texas began using pentobarbital last year to replace sodium thiopental, which became unavailable when its European supplier stopped making it under pressure from death penalty opponents.

Let's just bring back "Old Sparky" the electric chair. Or better yet, a good strong rope is cheap and can be reused! Recycling til the end!

I don't understand how these people can be against the death penalty? These people on death row committed violence that is unspeakable and grotesque and you want to give them a free pass. We need to bring back eye for an eye and public executions. You stop crime by making an example of those who can't live within our social confines.

We could just stick a funnel down their throat and pour some acid?

So, what's wrong with the "one bullet" method? Most of those sitting on death row subjected their victims to extreme cruel and unusual punishment, so why should they deserve better themselves, for their own demise? I can hardly believe that I'm saying this. The first half of my life, I argued against the death penalty. Then, I grew up and matured and faced reality. So many need to be removed from society for the protection of society. We cannot trust our judicial system to hold steadfast and not decide to go backwards. There should NEV ER be a risk of these monsters being released back into society. They must be eliminated. And, with my maturity and learning, I've come to think that we support and keep them far too long. Appeals should be much quicker, and justice should be within a reasonable time. With today's forensics and science, there cannot be a question of guilt if there is the evidence to support it. Okay, I'll get off my soapbox for now. Chao........
