SAN ANTONIO - Cutting down weeds and overgrown shrubs can easily cut down on crime in alleys and other easements.  This Saturday, the Eastwood Village Neighborhood Association is planning an "Alley Attack." Residents in the 818 homes in the area will clean up the alleys.

Monday afternoon, neighbors met with police officers, code enforcement and firefighters to discuss the safety benefits of the big clean up.  Emergency responders can't access homes or people if vegetation has overgrown the road, and the brush can become a magnet for crime.  Code Enforcement Assistant Director Marc Castro said it's the resident's responsibility to maintain from the property line to the middle of the alleyway.

Solid Waste Management will pick up branches at the Eastwood Village center from 8 a.m. to noon.  A week after the clean up, Code Enforcement officers will inspect the alleys and residents can expect to receive a citation notice if it does not meet regulations, Castro said.

Why doesn't the Mayor, Chief of Police, Sherrif, or our great city manager, use the inmates in the Bexar County Jail to do the work? Bring back the chain gang crew!! Just think how much cleaner our highways, parks, and alleys would look!!!!
