SAN ANTONIO- Fed up with vehicle vandals, one neighborhood is working together to cut down on crime.  Neighbors in the Eastwood Village area on the east side say they've noticed an increase in the number of car break-ins and thefts. At their neighborhood association meeting Thursday night, neighbors learned crime tips from San Antonio Police.

SAPD reports the area was hit with 13 vehicle thefts and 10 vehicle burglaries in 2011. Thursday night, police emphasized hiding valuables, locking car doors and parking in the garage.

The group is working on getting Neighborhood Watch signs installed in the area and members are helping establish associations in other areas, so they can share crime-fighting tips.

It a shame that we have neighborhood like this. If you look on the city data you can pin-point which area has the highest crime based on the income. The zipcode is 78220 and the median household income for 2009 was $29,949. The solution (I am talking to the people who lack education and steal from other people) go to school get an education, and maybe you can make money without fear of getting caught by the police or getting shot by someone you are trying to jack, but I just realize I am talking to people who are too caught up with their stupid ways.

Here's my issue. Why should society have to change their way of life cause some a/hole has sticky fingers. If SAPD gets a report of someone laying dead in a driveway because a neighbor saw them vandaling a vehicle, then not only should the neighbor get a cash reward, they should be given a Marshall's Star. Camp out in a dark area and wait for vandal to come along. When enough of them are being picked off in the streets, then crime will go down in that area. Head shots only please. It's a waste of taxpayer money to have them laying up in a hospital bed....

and get LICENSE PLATE NUMBERS if you see a crime in progress involving a car, that will help a lot.

add more porch lighting/motion sensors. My neighbor installed a camera with huge lights system after his car had attempted burglary and got all keyed up, then call the non-emergency police if you hear neighbors partying loudly with the F words on weekends, when the police reminds them to stop disturbing the peace, other crimes seem to go down as well. keep the police in your neighborhood and report small things before they turn into bigger things. and you can be low key about it too.
