POTEET, Texas -- A murder investigation is underway in Poteet just south of San Antonio. Police say it's the first murder of the year in Poteet.
Police said Emilio Villa, 35, was shot once in the head just after 11 o'clock Friday morning outside a public housing complex.
Villa's body was found on a sidewalk. Villa's brother in law Henry Garay told News 4 WOAI the father of three had lived in Poteet before but was currently living in Houston. "He came down for a few days cause he wanted to see his ex-girlfriend," said Garay.
Garay said Villa walked to a nearby convenience store near his ex-girlfriends home just before 11 am, but never made it back. The home was down the road from the housing complex. "He went to the store to get some drinks, and he was found with the bag with the drinks," added Garay.
Poteet police are still searching for the man who shot Villa. Investigators say the victim knew who the suspect was.
"He got into an altercation with another male subject words were exchanged, apparently got heated from eyewitness information that we were told," replied Sgt. Luis Farias, with Poteet PD.
