SAN ANTONIO- Everybody hates traffic, but how do San Antonio backups stack up to the rest of the state? The Texas Department of Transportation has released a list of the 100 most congested roadway segments in the state and the worst area in San Antonio is IH 35 between 1604 and FM 3009 on the northeast side.
Traffic there causes 637,660 hours of delay annually at a cost of $22.46 million. However, it only ranks 31st in the top 100 worst stretches. Close behind at 32 is US 281 between 1604 and Stone Oak Parkway. Drivers there lose 359,160 hours annually to the tune of $14.16 million.
TxDOT says they could expand both highways from the existing lanes, but that would cost billions of dollars and there's no money available to begin either project.
10 stretches of roadways in Bexar County make the statewide list. Coming in at 33rd worst is IH 35 between 410 and 1604 and IH 35 downtown between IH10 and US 281 makes the list at 35.
IH 10 from 410 to 1604 comes in at 58 on the list and 410 from IH 10 to US 281 is not far behind at number 60.
The most congested area is a portion of IH 35 W in Fort Worth. To check out where other Bexar County roadways made the list,
