Windcrest, Texas- As the investigation into the Aurora movie shooting continues so does help for those who survived that horrific day. On Saturday, a community came together to help local survivor Brent Lowak. A barbecue plate fundraiser was held to raise money to help pay for Brent’s medical expenses.

“We’ve had our pit out here since four this morning smoking the meat, cooking the corn, things along those lines,” explained Meg Bodin.

Meg is one of the organizers. She has known Brent since they attended Smithson Valley High School, along with Jessica Ghawi, who died as a result of the Colorado shootings. Meg said she wanted to help out anyway she could.

Her efforts along with numerous volunteers paid off. Plates sold at the fundraiser helped raise $7,750 which exceeded organizer's projected goal. They have also set up a bank account at Wells Fargo Bank. Anyone who would like to donate can do so to the “Brent Lowak Survivor Expense Fund".

God Bless these young people that showed their hearts and humanity in their care, concern, and responsiblity in helping their friend, as well as mourning the loss of another. I'm so happy that they exceeded their goal and thank all that participated in the event. This is an example of what this country used to be and still should be all about....family helping family, friend helping friend, neighbor helping neighbor, humanitarian helping stranger. We don't need governmental interference with this type of US Citizen and human being!!!!
